Admission to Abbots Hall Primary Academy

At Abbots Hall Primary Academy, we believe the early stages of a child's life to be most important in laying foundations for future learning. We have long recognised the disadvantage to Spring and Summer born pupils regarding the length of time spent in Key Stage 1. At Abbots Hall Primary Academy, all Foundation class pupils start school in September and are offered a full time place, which they are gradually introduced to.

All parents who wish their children to attend our school must apply to Thurrock Council’s Admissions Department early in the year (a date is published) preceding the Academic Year that the child is due to be admitted into school.

The Local Authority encourages all applications to be made on the Thurrock Council Website.

Admissions to our school are in line with Thurrock Admission arrangements as follows:

If there are not more requests for places than the published number, the local authority is able to agree all requests. Where there are more applicants than places, the local authority is required to have criteria for deciding which requests have priority. This criterion is set out below in priority order.

  1. Children in Public Care will automatically be given first consideration above all categories of priority.
  2. Children whose normal place of residence is in the catchment area of the school at the time of application and admission.
  3. Children whose normal place of residence is outside the catchment area at the date of application and admission.
  4. Children with a sibling attending the school at the date of application and admission are first priority in 2 and 3 above.

Appeals

Parents have the right to appeal against a decision made regarding admission. Any appeal should be made in writing, addressed to: Admissions, Education Department, PO Box 118, Grays, RM17 6GF.

Admissions – Primary and secondary main rounds for

September 2017 entry

The primary round will be open to parents from 1st November 2016 to January 15th 2017 inclusive.

The secondary round opened to parents on 1st September 2016 and closes on 31st October 2016.

We ask parents to apply online at https://www.thurrock.gov.uk/admissions where the two composite prospectuses are available in pdf format. Briefing sessions for prospective parents are scheduled as follows:

Primary:

Wednesday 19 October 2016 at:

Civic Hall,

Blackshots Lane,

Grays

Essex

RM16 2JU

from

4.00pm - 5.30pm

and

7.00pm - 8.30pm.

These sessions are designed to explain the admissions process, with particular emphasis on deadlines for application, and to encourage parents to express informed preferences.

In recent years in each round some 10% of applications are late and substantial numbers of applications express only one or two preferences.

Be Aware!

Parents, you should be aware it is in your interest to apply on time and to use the opportunity to express as many preferences as you can within the limits imposed by the system – four preferences for primary and six for secondary.
