If your child is absent, please telephone the school on the first day. If we do not hear from you, we will contact you as part of our statutory duty.
Absences may be authorised or unauthorised by the school. Authorised absences include sickness, family crisis or other unavoidable, exceptional circumstances, as agreed by the Headteacher.
Unauthorised absences include unexplained illnesses, excessive absence for minor ailments, helping at home, meeting relatives, avoidable term-time holidays etc.
There is no entitlement to term time holiday except in the case of exceptional circumstances.
If a child’s absence becomes a concern and falls below 95%, we will write to you and if there is no improvement, we are obliged to make a referral to the Education Welfare Service, who will investigate the circumstances. This can ultimately lead to prosecution and a substantial fine.
When you start at our school, we will ask for contact details in an emergency. If these change, please inform us immediately. We will also contact you via text or email to keep you up to date with school information, so it is very important that you remember to tell us of any change to your mobile phone numbers or email addresses.
The school is not allowed to administer non-prescription medications. If you wish your child to receive non-prescribed medication, you may come in to administer it. If your child has been prescribed medication from a doctor and needs this during school hours, please contact the School Office to discuss this and the school procedure for administering prescribed medication.
Asthma pumps are kept available at all times in your child’s classroom.
